"There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!" - Mario Savio

Okay, folks. I'm off to Portland in about 8 hours, so i'm going to be non-blog for a week. I'm sure i'll have all kinds of fun things to report when i return. Until then, check this out. George Soros is at it again. I'm starting to dig this guy. He's alright for a billionaire. He and two other really rich people are spending an incredible amount of money setting up drug treatment facilities and campaigning for legislation changes on a state to state level to end mandatory sentencing laws. They wasnt new legislation that leans more towards treatment centers for people convicted of posession of drugs, rather than jail time that would probalby do no good. I saw the article in the wall street journal, but you have to pay to read it onlin, those money grubbing bastards. Anyways, what do you think?????

So, I'm watching the new Rage Against the Machine home video "the battle of Mexico City" that I bought. it's quite good. i still like the old one better, but this is definitely a good video. as always with rage, i wonder how many people in the audience are just looking to jump around and have a rough old good time, and how many are there for the true rage-ificness. especially since many of those in attendance during this video probably don't speak english. oh well. they are/were definitely a great live band, and seeing it on video isn't close to seeing them live, but if this is all we can get now, i'm going to continue watching.

Yeah, it's going to be a damn good month. right on. um, okay, i'm leaving

Interesting going-ons in Waco on saturday night. I tried to find a news story to link to, but there wasn't one available anywhere that I looked. Anyways, I guess I'll report: I was at Schooners, a bar in this big building that has restaurants, shops, and other bars. Anyways, I was chilling with some friends on the balcony outside of the second floor. There's this other restaurant/bar/pool hall two doors down. Apparantly, some 19 year old guy got drunk and tried to hit on an underage girl. Her parents informed the bouncer at Cricket's and the man was asked to leave/escorted out. Evidently, he had a gun in his car, got it, went back into cricket's and tried to shoot the bouncer. Fortunately, he missed and the bullet supposedly went through the whole place (which is a good size) and hit the back wall. All i heard at the time was the shot (which I thought was a car backfiring or something) and then i see all kinds of people run out of cricket's with pool cues and stuff, and some people hiding behind cars. I heard, though, that the guy with the gun ran to a hotel parking lot across the street, fired another shot, and a police officer nearby heard it, and apprehended the guy. Needless to say, it was a definite wierd/exciting/scary deal. Let's hear it for the NRA, b/c without them, um, well....

So I'm studying for my History of Economic Thought final, and remembered an article that I read at the beginning of the semester for class. It's by a really really rich guy named George Soros. He was one of the guys that published the ads in the New York Times and other papers saying not to repeal the estate tax. Anyways, it's called "the capitalist threat" and talks about how our belief in "the market" is the most dangerous enemy that we have in the United States today, and it may prove to be our downfall. It's a pretty long article, but I highly suggest you read it. Find it here!

What's up party people? sorry if the posting is a little sparse this week, but it's finals time. I did get my first birdie in disc golf yesterday. Then i lost a disc on the next hole! but, what are you gonna do? What else? Not real sure. Am I the only one that thinks that this guy going into space for $20million is ridiculous? What kind of ego does this guy have? I'm all about space exploration (although the cost is absolutely awful) but where does this guy get off? He said he wants to show people how easy it is, and tell his snooty rich friends to try it too. Pitiful!
